UDVO
The UDVÖ (Association of Independent Dance Teachers in Austria) is dedicated to a selection of dances from the African-American diaspora (breaking, hip-hop, house, popping, locking, waacking, voguing, etc.) that originated on the East and West Coasts of the USA between 1970 and 1990. The social, party, and club dances of African-American communities during this era spread through mass media and sparked a worldwide craze. Outside the USA, these dances—with few exceptions—are predominantly celebrated in the form of shows and competitions, in contrast to their original context. Since the mid-1980s, they have enjoyed increasing popularity in Austria. Here, they are primarily taught and learned in dance studios, youth centers, workshops, and online tutorials.
